Hygiene is particularly important when you menstruate. You should wash the genital area with mild soap in connection with each catheterisation. To avoid getting blood on the catheter you could change tampons before emptying the bladder. You could also hold a piece of paper in front of the vaginal opening while you insert the catheter.
